Playstation ’94 Pop Up Shop

If anyone happened to find themselves walking down Bethnal Green Road in London last night they would have seen a pretty big queue developing next to a blacked out shop. The people looked like the familiar sneaker release crowd but it wasn’t the latest Jordan they are queuing through the night for, its the 20th Anniversary PlayStation 4.

To honour 20 years of PlayStation fever, Sony have released a special edition PlayStation 4 in the same grey as the original and are selling it for….wait for it….£19.94!

But there is a catch, there are only 94 in the stock room, hence the huge queue and the recipient has to be in possession of a piece of PlayStation memorabilia and a super secret password in order to receive this bargain.

This pop up store in East London is decked out like it has time travelled from 1994 and will have all the retro game favourites. It is open for 3 days only and will stock the full price Anniversary PlayStation from Thursday for £399 with all proceeds from the pop up going to the charity Games Aid.

To celebrate this exciting store opening we thought we would showcase some of our favourite 90’s trainers in case you decide to visit and want to get into the spirit of things.

The adidas Equipment Running models were released in 1991 as part of a performance range and boasted the adidas Torsion system which allows for movement and stability. The colourway of white, green and black is the OG colourway of this collection.

The iconic Nike Air Huarache also released in 1991 was the first to display the unique stretch grip neoprene sock fit upper. Inspired by the Native American sandal from where it takes its name, the Air Huarache doesn’t feature the Swoosh but has Nike written across the heel strap.

The PlayStation pop up shop is open for 3 days only from today and will close on Friday 12th December.

This pack brings out two classic running models from the adidas archive and gives them a fresh makeover for 2014, courtesy of the Offspring creative team. The adidas ZX420 was first released in 1988, when it was originally crafted for the serious long distance runner. Pre-dating the Torsion system by only a few months, this lightweight model features a comfortable three-piece EVA midsole and teams it up with a well-designed upper that has stood the test of time.

The adidas Torsion Response Lite premiered in 1992. This reworked version features clever and functional updates in the form of AdiPRENE cushioning in the sole unit, a revised inner sock and tongue area and special details, such as the spring-loaded lace locks. Flip the shoe upside-down and there’s the reassuring sight of the Torsion bar: one of the most-loved examples of functional design in sportswear history.

Both shoes get a full premium transformation here. The adidas Torsion Response Lite finds itself re imagined in luxurious two-tone pigskin on the toe box and side panels, with a vibrant green inner sock to hold the foot steady. Special elements, such as 3M detailing on the Stripes and heel tabs, the bright pink Torsion bar and colour-matched laces, complete the makeover. The adidas ZX420 steps out in full neon regalia: purple neoprene uppers offset the black suede overlays and pink 3M Stripes. An additional full-length 3M tongue panel is the perfect sign off on this unique and exciting twin-pack.

adidas Stan Smith reborn

A global fashion icon will be reborn in Spring/Summer ’14 as the legendary Stan Smith returns from its sabbatical. Removed from the shelves for the past few seasons, the classic silhouette has been re-invigorated and updated for the modern day while still staying true to the look and shape of the original.

Since its debut as a tennis shoe, the Stan Smith has made its way from the tennis court to the street, becoming adidas’ best-selling shoe of all time, with over 40 million pairs sold. American tennis icon Stan Smith began wearing what was the world’s first ever leather tennis shoe in 1971, when he won the US Open on grass and the Davis Cup on clay with the American team. In 1972 he won Wimbledon wearing the classic adidas shoe.

Originally introduced and developed for the French tennis player Robert Haillet in the mid-1960s, the name of Stan Smith was added to the tennis shoe, alongside Haillet’s, at the start of the 70s, before it was designated as the signature sneaker of the American sporting icon in 1972.

One of the most culturally iconic and commercially successful tennis silhouettes of all time, the Stan Smith will re-affirm its place at the pinnacle of the market with the re-launch of the OG on Jan 15th 2014.

12 Kicks PT9: Adidas Superstar

131206_12kicks_banner

Introduced in 1969, the adidas Superstar was a low top version of the Pro Model and was the first low top basketball shoe to be made. Immediately identifiable by its rubber toe box, it became known to millions as ‘the shell toe’. A revival in the late 1980’s saw the Superstar getting snapped up by the hip hop scene and the shoe reached iconic status when famous rap group Run DMC made it part of their look. A main contender in the trainer hall of fame, it is a style that every sneakerhead needs to own.
