My first core memory of the Nike Air Humara is when I spotted them at my local Nike Store! They were the Nike Air Humara 17 Concord and they were unbelievable. I am definitely a fan of bright coloured trainers, and these had a mix theme of orange, purple and brown hues with 3M reflective accents on the heels and a textured wrap midsole with a trail inspired theme to round them off. You know I had to come home with them.

Safe to say over the past couple of years Nike have been releasing amazing collaborations using the Humara model ranging from Supreme, to now with the designer brand Jacquemus.

When I say I screamed when I saw the new upcoming colourway of Nike x Jacquemus collab... I did I screamed. They are WOW. They are definitely far away from the previous collaboration with the beige and browns tones from the ‘Le Papier’ collection. The hot pink colourway will certainly be a showstopper for all your Christmas fits this season. They take homage to the OG 97’ Humara with the shape and style however combining the luxurious materials making for a daring yet versatile sneaker.

I am truly excited for this collaboration as they are such a special pair. The materials and the attention to detail ranging from the signature gold mini swoosh, Jacquemus tongue, heel, and insole branding to the supple suede and leather that adds to the sneakers trail aesthetic.

Jacquemus is a French designer brand owned by Simon Porte Jacquemus. He started the brand at just the age of 19 in a very unconventional way. In 2009 he moved to Paris to pursue a degree in Fashion however, his mother passed away only a couple of months into his degree and this is when he dropped out to start his own fashion brand. This is when Simon made his imprint into the fashion industry by not only bringing his innovative point of view and fresh vision but becoming the youngest ever person to show at Paris Fashion week back in 2012.

It’s undeniable that when you think of Jacquemus you think bags. Especially the array of colourful bags that have been invading the fashion scene since Simon quietly dropped his ‘La Bomba’ collection and the tiny bag, otherwise known as the ‘Le Chiquito’ in 2017.

This was the year that changed everything. From debuting them in his 2017 ready to wear collection they made an immense impression with the world, especially with the fashion icons. From then on, the ‘Le Chiquito’ and even the mini ‘Le Chiquito’ bag which has the capacity of a small pair of earrings, have become a signature to the Jacquemus identity.

My personal connection with the brand is when they first collaborated with Nike. I never really imagined a designer brand and a streetwear giant would merge together to bring a collection that is a mixture of lifestyle yet high end.

It was mainly the apparel that caught my attention and when I was able to cop on the Jacquemus website... after a few minutes of stress I was ecstatic. For me it was a huge moment being able to purchase the collection as I would never have dreamed of owning something from a huge designer brand like Jacquemus. So, for them to collaborate with a brand such as Nike who I wear every day is a collaboration I can get behind and support.

I love it when two worlds meet and help bring the two communities together.

Thinking about the future I would love to see a collaboration between Nike and Amie Leon Dore. With their amazing high-end apparel meets streetwear it would combine the two communities perfectly and knit the two together. The collection I would hope would be a clean colour palette yet incorporating the distinctive accents from ALD’s identity.

The Nike x Jacquemus Humara launches December 9th 2022.
