Aman Tak gives the lowdown on the upcoming Nike Terminator High, back in its original ‘Georgetown’ colourway.
Its first appearance came in 1985 on the now iconic ‘Be True to Your School’ poster. Nestled in the bottom right corner, at a quick glance one could easily mistake it for a Nike Dunk High. Slightly misplaced some would say but the significance of its presence was greater than you would expect.
When Nike signed the college Basketball deal it enabled them to supply select teams with shoes in their team colours. Kentucky & Syracuse were just a few of the establishments that got the Dunk High designed in their respective colourways.
With Georgetown coming off a National Championship win in 1984, it was decided that they would be graced with their own signature shoe. The retro versions we know today has the Nike word font on the heel but players versions back then, came with the HOYAS call off on the heel in the iconic Grey/Navy colorway synonymous with the US College. Regarded as the first real signature shoe, the Terminator was the first in the long line of other iconic models that would take on the Grey/Navy colour scheme.
2003 eventually saw the return of the Terminator in the Georgetown colour up, minus the Hoyas heel call out. The release started off a long line of collaborations and inline iterations.
Arguably one of the most iconic would be the Maharishi. 1000 pairs would be produced with their trade mark camo but those who were lucky to move in their close circles would receive a F&F version with the DPM (Disruptive Pattern Material) heel logo call off limited to 36 pairs.
The model also got kissed by Neighbourhood ‘Bonesyard’. Nike would go on to take a city approach with colourways that represented iconic NBA teams. We saw a Seattle colourway, Boston Celtics and even a Michigan state replicated those iconic Be True to your school colour ups.
We even saw legendary store Slam Jam take on the model, before seeing the silhouette elevated further through inline partnerships with Harris Tweed, there was a SWAT execution similar to the steel toe cap AF1 Hi, and we even got see a Mowabb inspired colour option.
2022 sees the return of the OG.
Could we see the same NRG we did a decade earlier? We’ve seen some leaked images floating about of some interesting colourways as well as a famous fashion house, which use a three-letter abbreviation, having showcased the model at Fashion Week.
All we can say is its going to be an exciting season for this model.
