To celebrate the opening chapter of the BAPESTA’s 25th anniversary we linked up with @bape_europe and @goods.jewellery to host an intimate hands on workshop at the BAPE Flagship Soho store. Guests took part in a traditional lost-wax carving session, designing and creating their own one-of-one BAPESTA inspired jewellery piece.
The community engaged with traditional lost‑wax carving techniques, hand‑sculpting a bespoke ring or pendant that offered a refined interpretation of the iconic BAPE® STA motif. Using a specially commissioned stencil ensures architectural precision, while allowing each piece to retain a distinctive, personal expression.
Starting with a block of jewellers wax, a ring sizer was used to shave away the inside of the wax until the desired ring size was reached. The stencil was then applied and using carving knives and sand paper the wax gets sculpted into shape gradually refining the smaller details.
Once the shape of the BAPESTA motif is formed, all the surfaces are smoothed and neatened - although not too much as to retain the one-of-a-kind, handmade, first-time creation character of the pieces. The room went quiet for a moment with everybody so focused on their craft, but not for long. Gradually one by one everyone would take a lap of the table, checking out each others work and looking for inspiration. The room was buzzing.
Each one-of-a-kind creation has been sent off to be cast in solid sterling silver and finished by master jewellers, resulting in a one‑of‑one, heirloom‑quality object. Completed pieces will be ready approximately four weeks later, serving as a lasting record of the atelier process.
Big shout out to @goods.jewellery, @BAPE_europe, and @melancholygrillzldn and everyone who came through and made the night what it was. Looking forward to seeing the finished pieces!
