Jackie is a cultural storyteller, poet, author and Offspring community member from East London. Her latest piece fusing spoken word poetry with imagery, documents her growing up a black African in London between the 80s and early 2000s.
While fashion and sneaker culture are evolving and merging the Caribbean and African diaspora, cresting a new black British experience. Following fashions of our friends, peers, olders and creating our own waves and styles. From Nike swooshes in haircuts, to finger waves, to socks inside socks and odd pair trainer swaps. Avirex, Pyrex and Lot29 being the leaders amongst streetwear, the only designers that the diaspora could afford. While showcasing our love for fashion, expression and creativity at block parties, house parties, cinema trips and carnival.
The early 80s and 90s black British fashion and sneaker experience has laid a foundation for the black British born Afro/Caribbeans of today, reminiscent of those days back then.
