BIRKENSTOCK HOOK & LOOP

Birkenstock's Hook & Loop campaign introduces two new silhouettes - the Solana and the Loma. Designed with an easy open-and-close system, both styles offering even more comfort and effortless wear, making them simple to slip on and off.

Inspired by the concept of 'Hook & Loop', we turned to music. A space where connection and rhythm create a sense of comfort for artists. We spoke with three creatives from our community to explore what keeps them hooked on their craft, and how they stay in the loop within an ever-evolving industry.

SK is a singer and songwriter who was heavily influenced by her parents vast vinyl collection growing up, with fond memories of sitting around listening to them each week. As the lead singer of the band SK & The Kings her voice and presence is impossible to ignore.

Introduce yourself and what you do

My name's SK and I am a singer and songwriter.

What's your earliest interaction with music?

One of my earliest memories of music was listening to vinyls with my parents and hearing all the stories behind all the songs and artists.

Walk me through your creative process. What does it look like day to day?

I find creativity in my daily tasks. I feel like the less forced it is, the more authentic it is.

If someone could understand one thing about you just from engaging with your music, what would you want it to be?

I would want people to see that all of my music, every word, every line, comes from a real place. And then hopefully they can see a little bit of themselves in that too.

From his earliest interaction of music being from his brother and dad as DJs playing a lot of Motown and funk to creating his own music, Sky-I now describes himself as an overall tastemaker.

Introduce yourself and what you do.

My name is Skyy-I. Also known as Big Skizo. At this point I would describe myself as an overall tastemaker.

What's your earliest memory or interaction with music?

My earliest memory or interaction with music would have to be my big brother and my pops you know. Both DJs, a lot of Motown, a lot of reggae. Surrounded my music constantly it just had a natural impact.

What keeps you hooked, how do you stay in the loop?

If you've ever done music and created music from a place, from your heart and realness, it's never gonna leave you. You may have breaks and times where you don't feel inspired to make music and put your creativity out there. But it will always come back to you.

Jess, a musician, DJ , and nail artist, got hooked into music through singing Vietnamese karaoke. Her childhood bedroom is the place where she feels most creative due to it seeing her through so many phases of life. Life itself is what keeps Jess in the loop, with music being an outlet to express how she feels.

Introduce yourself and what you do.

My name is Jess, I'm a musician, DJ, and nail artist.

What got you hooked?

The first moment that got me hooked in music was singing Vietnamese karaoke.

Where do you feel most like yourself creatively?

I feel like myself creatively when I'm at my childhood home. My room in particular has seen me go through so many phases in life.

What keeps you in the loop?

What keeps me in the loop now is life itself. Its highs and lows. It's joy and pain. I feel like music is such an outlet for me to just express how I feel. I really hope that through my music I can help to articulate how others feel. I think on top of that, community is a big thing as well. It can be a very solitary practice. When you collaborate with like minded people you're combining immense creative power.
