We chat to Offspring Community member Amar aka @adhillon25
Tell us about yourself.
My name is Amar Dhillon, and I’m from West London, born and bred, although I spent around eighteen months living in Australia around 2015. My family are originally from Malaysia, Singapore and India. I’m a senior account manager for a medical device company. What that means is that I spend a lot of my time, training and educating clinicians on correct uses of my company’s product. It’s also ultimately a sales role so relationship building, ordering, prescribing, marketing, costing/sales figures are heavily involved.
How long have you been into sneakers and how did you get into them?
I’ve been into sneakers ever since I can remember. I was also into the what the ‘coolest’ sneaker was and how it would look in school on the playground, and how it would increase my performance playing football. Growing up I had to be really selective as I wasn’t always able to get every pair I wanted, unless my other pairs were completely broken. However, when I was able to work and earn my own money, I could get whatever pair and how many pairs I wanted. It wasn’t until I moved back from Australia that I really gained a passion for collecting. My first Offspring win was my Levi’s x Air Jordan 4 Black, and since then I have been fortunate enough to win some more.
Do you have any early sneaker memory?
Each pair in my collection tells a unique story and holds sentimental value. One of my earliest sneaker memories is wearing Nike Shox to play football, convinced they made me faster and improved my shooting, despite the occasional ankle buckle.
Do you have any sneaker regrets and what is your sneaker grail?
My sneaker regrets would have to be Virgil Abloh’s Nike x OFF-WHITE ‘The Ten’ and the Union x Air Jordan 1 OG. I passed on a couple of pairs in favour to other people who were desperate to get them. I was happy to help others but they’ll always be grails I would love to have in the collection but very unlikely, unless Nike do a re-release.
One collection I’m grateful to have collected is the adidas Dragon Ball Z collaboration! Each pair is so unique, and the box design, amazing!
What sneakers are in your rotation currently?
Sneakers I have in my current rotation, wow! Always a tricky question to answer because I usually like to rotate all my pairs. My favourite models are Nike SB Dunks and Jordan 4’s, so any excuse to get them on feet. To be honest, I pick my outfit and then try to make the sneakers fit. Unless I get a new pair, I’m always desperate to get them on feet asap; so then it’s shoes first and then outfit to match.
Recently, I have been wearing the Air Jordan 1 High OG x UNION x Bephies Beauty Supply (wore them 3 times last week).
The J Balvin x Air Jordan 3 ‘Rio’ are such an easy pair to style, so they are not far from reach. But my favourite go-to pair is probably my Joe Freshgoods x New Balance 993, so comfortable. But with the summer and shorts weather my Trophy Room x Air Jordan 1 Low is always a winner!
Aside from sneakers what else are you into?
Apart from sneakers I love working out in the gym, being a personal trainer also helps! But I am a massive F1 fan – Go Lewis! My dream is to eventually see every circuit. I have so far done Silverstone (3 times), Malaysia (2 times), Singapore and Australia. I was even lucky enough to meet Lewis in Malaysia!
I love gaming XBOX, and Halo is easily my favourite game but I pretty much play anything. I’m into fashion, any excuse to grab new clothes for new outfits, admittedly a bad habit. I love driving, and always have a new car every couple of years (huge waste of money lol). I love travelling, see different cultures and how people across different countries live.
So far Japan, specifically Tokyo would have to be my favourite place, what a country and what a city!
What does the Offspring community mean to you?
The Offspring Community means a lot to me. I have been fortunate enough to have met such incredible people and continue to do so. Everyone is so supportive and friendly. Whether it’s meeting someone to collect an Offspring win or whether it’s to head to a sneaker event, its always a memorable time.
What started out as casual sneaker community members, I now consider true, genuine friends, this would not have been possible without the community.
