SUNDAY DISCUSSION: WORLD CUP 2026

The FIFA World Cup 2026 is upon us and this Sunday we asked the Community who they think is lifting the trophy and which team they think could be a dark horse and sneak into the latter stages.

As with every big tournament there are optimists, pessimists, and those who have absolutely no idea what's going on, but we must say... a lot of the community are very optimistic this year!

Croatia been hustling hard past few world cups and are a serious threat to the regular finalists.

Disappointed to see no Poland in the world cup this year, but similarly to the Brazilians having ‘Altinha’, we do a lot of rug beating every Saturday/Bank Holiday, so we tend to make good tennis players 🤣 Have a blessed weekend

@dont_step_on_my_crep

To win - Argentina or France
@ns.lifeandtimes

As much as I want Ronaldo to have his World Cup, I still feel like Argentina might have it. Or we never know England might just bring it home.
@jbali_07

As much as I'd love for it to come home, I don't feel like it will happen. I got a feeling it'll be between Portugal or Argentina.
@mxnivc

Like every tourney I'm going to say it's coming home until it actually does. But I think Portugal has a strong chance. All eyes will be on big Ron but Bruno could be the start player with his current form.

@rbaybay

Hopefully it comes home this year, we can all benefit from an extra bank holiday. Spain is looking strong and might be CR7's final World Cup so anything can happen. It will be interesting to see who lifts the trophy.

@mysnkrjournal

It's coming home we're hoping lads

@toffybrando

England beat all teams 6-2 and lift the trophy is a 9-0 defeat over Spain in the final

@shoo

Looking forward to watching a great tournament of football. England to beat France in the final.

@Fitzy_afc

Hoping Harry Kane brings it home. That 30 years of hurts turned into 60 this year.

@djamzee

I only watch football when it's the World Cup so definitely rooting for England.
@totorod

With most of the England Players winning trophies this season I think they'll have a taste for more!

I think the heat will play a major factor into the tournament, expect a lot of slow paced 1-1,1-0 or 2-1 games. As always have hopes that it'll come home this time but let's wait and see!
@dippersingh45

I believe that a European Nation will win the World Cup it’s either Spain 🇪🇸 France 🇫🇷 England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 I would Love to see the boys bring it home tho 3️⃣🦁. The country could do with the lift and a reason to have a Big party.
@_alfiejacobs

If I had to pick a winner for the next World Cup today, I'd go with either France or Spain.

Spain arguably have the most complete squad in international football right now, while France continue to produce world-class talent in every position and always seem to find a way deep into tournaments.

My dark horse? Portugal.

They might not be getting the same hype as some of the favourites, but their squad is stacked with quality, depth, and experience. If everything clicks, they have more than enough talent to go all the way.

As for Brazil, I'm not convinced they're at the same level we've seen from previous generations. The talent is there, but they don't feel as dominant as the great Brazilian teams of the past.

That said, as an England fan, I'm hoping it's finally England's year. They've got the talent to compete with anyone if they can put it all together when it matters.
@official_mister_

This 1 will be tough for European teams due to the climate. France looks very strong but I would love to see England win it
@sneakercedz

For some reason this year doesn’t feel like it’s a World Cup , the vibes just aren’t there . I’m not sure if it’s because of the host and what they’ve done to the ticket prices but there isn’t as much World Cup vibes as the past which is disappointing. But for me I would Ronaldo to finish off his career with a World Cup , that would be iconic and Portugal 🇵🇹 do have the squad to do it this year . But with how strong France 🇫🇷 are it’s going to be hard not to pick them .

I think France have a good chance and my money is on them but with the climate I think European countries will struggle, Portugal will do very well too. Think Argentina have a very good chance.
@adhillon25

If France bring cohesion then it's theirs but if not it will be Spain.

@ulysses_london

Would love to say England but it's either France or Brazil.
@ambreezy_uk

If I had to pick a winner for the World Cup today I'd go with France or Spain.
@official_mister_

Looks like it's going to be France or possibly Spain.

@paceman1985

Difficult to see past France or Spain winning it. Would be great if England did but after the way they strolled around against New Zealand in the heat, unless there is a massive improvement / acclimatisation then it isn’t going to happen.
@moz273

As much as I'd love for it to come home but I don't feel like it will happen. I got a feeling it will be between Portugal or Argentina.

@mxnivc

Portugal and looking strong and the same with France.
@thisiswonderk

Funny feeling CR7 may finally be crowned. England should go into the later stages.
@_vii.ncenzo

A nice easy ne for me, CR7's year for the win.
@happyfeet_trsf

I've got my money on Portugal
@andrewwillz

Favourites have to be France, but Portugal with that midfield will be tough, Brazil are being slept upon but they'll be up for the occasion too. As always have hopes that it'll come home this time but let's wait and see!

Think there's a few teams that have a good shout at winning. Don't think England can win but hopefully have a great run. Would love to see a new name on the trophy this year. Ultimately though im just hoping for a safe and successful tournament for fans and players.
@vancordtlandranger

France to beat Spain in the semis and then to go on to beat either England or Argentina in the final.
@markgoldsby1

I think it'll be France for the win. Would love England to do it but I'm prepared for disappointment!🤣 I'm thinking USA could do better than predicted, looked decent against Germany.
@jays_jurassic_giants

Take me back to when my country was feared at every World Cup 🇮🇹🤦🏻‍♀️
@stella_loris

Im not into fpotvall but i hope its a good tournament for the fans and i hope everyone enjoys it.
@rufio_g

May the best team win 🏆
@ogindiandreadhead

No idea but looking forward to it

I think Spain vs England final... will it come home? "No le see"

@nostraparmus14

Spain or Portugal will win it - France will struggle to work as a team and will be there surprise strugglers.
@a.k.creps

Espana is lifting the trophy, let's get it! Big Portugal might do something special.
@metrajeperdido

Spain to win

@am1_slim

Spain

@scannotattoo

Semifinalists will all be european( no south americans). My predictions are Spain, Portugal,France and England.
@sirfelipecanada

Spain and Portugal seem very strong.

@Dave_edwards_1987

I think France have a strong team but I don't think it will be them. I'd love Brazil or Portugal to get it. Want England to do well but the call ups were... odd.

@mike_nificent_lifts

Some brilliant squads about but Brazil, France and Portugal are my early picks.

@_sneakerteacher

It's well overdue for Brazil
@nabz_27

I need a Brazil win for sureee. I need to see Neymar go bonkers.
@chrisprimus_

France or Brazil but of course rooting for England
@creperellaa

Think France will win, but hoping for Brazil

WHO'S THE DARK HORSE?

Spain, winners for me. But I’m a sucker for an underdog and I would like to think New Zealand are gonna knock around for a long time.
@92inc_

Columbia are the dark horses for me
@am1_slim

Underdogs for me are Mexico, which I think England will just about beat in the knock out stages.
@markgoldsby1

I think it will be either France or Spain & one team that will surprise a few will be Ivory Coast 🇨🇮. Having said that l feel this is the most open world cup in recent memory which makes it all the more interesting. Let’s gooo ⚽️
@dougmanga

Spain and Portugal seem very strong. Dark horses maybe Norway or Sweden as they’ve great attacks. Just wish I’d get to watch the tournament rather than be 😴 each evening
@Dave_edwards_1987

In terms of dark horses I think Japan, Senegal or Ivory Coast could pull off some surprises.
@rbaybay

To get far im gonna back senegal and Japan
@sneakherin

Of course 🇮🇷 will be the dark horses , although we do have a handicap of flying to Mexico after every game 😭
@sta3h

My dark horse nominations are:

🇭🇷🇳🇱🇯🇵🇳🇴

Croatia been hustling hard past few world cups and are a serious threat to the regular finalists.

That's it, predictions made - We might even revisit this page to see who got it right!

Anticipation has built as nations rise to the occasion on footballs biggest stage. will a traditional powerhouse like Argentina, France, or Brazil deliver another memorable run, or could it finally BE COMING HOME!?
