Jordan brand ain’t playing this month. Following the release of two big shoes, Jordan again hits hard by dropping ‘another one’. To celebrate the launch of the upcoming ‘We the Best’ Air Jordan 5, we sent upcoming journalist and Offspring Community member Lil Theroux to Miami, for an exclusive interview with the man himself, the (literally) larger than life, DJ Khaled.
Okay. So it didn’t all go to plan. We arrived in Miami only to discover DJ Khaled had been called away on urgent business. Not wanting to let the Community down, we kept going, kept hustling, and set up the next best thing, an interview with Khaled’s Deliveroo Driver Dave. We the Best-ish.

It’s like the Lion is literally here. For anyone unfamiliar with hip hop culture, social media or have mostly been living under a rock for the last decade, how would you describe yourself as DJ Khaled?
We the best. Basically, I’m one of the greatest producers ever. And I’m also one of the greatest DJs ever. And I’m also one of the best executives ever. I’ve been a mogul and executive since the beginning of my career. People are just born with that skill.

Not the shy and retiring type, what’s the key to success?
Key to success is clean heart and clean face. To succeed, you must believe. When you believe, you will succeed. We have to get money. We have no choice. It cost money to eat. And they don’t want you to eat. And Star Fruit is one of my favourite fruits.
Thanks for sharing. Surely with all of DJ Khaled’s success, there must be more to it than just a clean heart and belief?
Another one? The key to more success is cocoa butter.
Cocoa Butter? Seriously?
I put cocoa butter all over my face, my arms and my legs. Why live rough? Live smooth. I love having an unlimited supply of cocoa butter. Lil Theroux – enjoy life man, live it up. Be a star. Be a superstar.
Okay. I can see how cocoa butter might have its benefits. With such wisdom what’s the best piece of life advice you can give to the Offspring Community?
It’s almost impossible to drive a jet ski at night time unless you’re in a city with lights lit up so you can navigate. Besides being pitch black, that water turn black at night. Listen, I don’t recommend it. They don’t want you to jet ski. Wait. There’s another one. Another two. Bless up – be honest but don’t play yourself. And you gotta water your plants. Nobody can water them for you.
I’m sure those with jet skis in the Community will feel blessed with this wisdom. DJ Khaled frequently references ‘they’. Who are ‘they’?
They don’t want you to win. They don’t want you to have the No. 1 record in the country. They don’t want you to get healthy. They don’t want you to exercise. And they don’t want you to have that view.
Why they hating and being all jealous, they could be here embracing the love, more love, more blessings, more life. It breaks my heart, they ain’t believe in us. MJ did.
MJ Certainly did. Shall we move on to sneakers. It’s why we’re here.
Fresh sneakers are important on a man. It’s like a new pair of boxers or a new pair of socks. God did.
I’m sure the Offspring Community will agree with you on that. Tell us more about the ‘We The Best’ Air Jordan 5. The colourways are quite bold.
Some call it Peach. Some call it Crimson Bliss. Some call it Salmon. Some call it Sushi. Some call it Coconut. Some call it Almond Milk. I call it perfection.
This is my favourite part, the sole. When I make a record, you gotta have that soul. Not only the bottoms come with the ‘We the Best’ Jordan logo and the Nike, the sides – look at the sides. We call that the forefoot spike in the sneaker world. That’s too technical for me. I call it iconic.
Right here on one tongue, it says ‘Keep’. The other tongue says ‘Going’… come on!

Win with us – that leads us nicely to my next question. We know the Offspring doors aren’t a lot of people’s personal choice to how they would like us to run a raffle. What are your thoughts on the doors?
They never said winning was easy. They will try to close the door on you, just open it. Them doors that was always closed, I ripped the doors off, took the hinges off. And when I took the hinges off, I put the hinges on them haters’ hands. They don’t want you to win.
That’s a little savage isn’t it? Can you give our Community a little more positive encouragement when it comes to raffles. I’m sure many would like to win with DJ Khaled.
Guess what? Wishes come true. We all want to win more, but it’s all about being blessed and embracing your blessings. We have life. Always have faith. Always have hope.
