Tell us a bit about yourself.
Hi everyone, I’m Mike. Many of you know me as ‘lucky’ but you probably wouldn’t know that I got that nickname because of my typically bad luck! I’d like to think that you know me because of my love for all things Jordan brand and trying to help others out where and when I can and always up for a laugh. I’m 35 & a father of two and they have been dragged into this sneaker life with no choices! I’ve been into sneakers for as long as I can remember with my first pay packet at 16 going on pairs of Air Max 90s and Reebok Workouts, I never looked back. I run and part own a building company and you’ll often see me flexing heat on sites as and when I can!
Tell us about your personal connection with the Air Jordan 7 silhouette.
I would say my connection with the Air Jordan 7 is that it’s a classic Jordan designed by the goat, Tinker Hatfield. Jordan led the bulls to a second championship in the 7, he also won the Olympic Games with that famous game in Barcelona with the ‘Dream Team’. I do love the silhouette and Jordan brand have blessed us with some incredible colourways over the years, Doernbecher, Patta, PSG collaboration, Pantone, Ray Allen PE, and classic OGs.
Within my collection there are a few favourites I have, the 2012 Olympics and the 2012 raptors, both classics! The golden moments (the one in the draw box with the Jordan 6) also from 2012, when the citrus came back last year that was an instant cop and they didn’t disappoint. Finally, one of my personal favourites the trophy rooms.
How does the ‘White infrared’ colour way differ from previous colourways of the Air Jordan 7?
As a Jumpman fan seeing an OG colourway on another silhouette can often make you think… really? Why have you done that? Just give us the OG… however saying that, I feel this upcoming colourway really works. It’s a clean pair ready for the summer months ahead of us.
What’s your thoughts on the Air Jordan 7 ‘White Infrared’?
If you’re looking to grab your first Air Jordan 7 or wanting to add another to the collection, this could be the one! If you’ve not owned a 7 before… what to expect, comfort of a Huarache with the swag levels of a J… what else do you really need in life?
This option will come with a mix of smooth and tumbled leather that make up the majority of the upper, in a clean white finish. The fabric tongue and inner sock lining deviate in both material and tone, with a black backdrop to vibrant ‘Infrared’ branding and other accents. Black pull tab on the back, part translucent outsole, Jumpman on the side... bosh, sorted!
How does this release fit into the larger context of the sneaker industry and sneaker culture?
This may not be on everyone’s hit list but for the Jordan guys, we will always have a close eye on them as a 7 is such a classic shoe. However, with this particular one, one eye to the future ready and waiting for the OG Jordan 6 to come back with that ‘Nike Air’ on the heel.
The Air Jordan 7 is often overlooked in people’s top 5 models. At Offspring, we personally love it. Where does the AJ7 sit in your all-time favourite Jordan models? What’s the order for you?
The Jordan 7 probably isn’t in most people’s top 5 Jordan’s, some people probably know that for me personally the Jordan 3 is king, closely followed by the 4, 1, 5 and 7. I feel the AJ7 is just one ‘big collab’ away from getting its moment in the sun, with rumours of a Travis in the making, personally I would love to see what A Ma Maniére or Union could do with the silhouette!
I think that Marcus Jordan and Trophy Room done an amazing job last time out and if you fancy grabbing them, it’s worth it. Amazing pair, the materials have been used and the box is awesome too!
What other OG colourways would you like to see on a different Jordan model and as a Jordan enthusiast, what would you love to see next for the Air Jordan 7 silhouette?
As for the whole let’s put an OG colourway on another silhouette, I think if it’s done correctly, it can work. We have seen the cross over a few times as of late with the ‘White Cement’ Jordan 1 being the last one prior to this. We saw the ‘Chlorophyll’ Jordan 3 a few years back too. Does it work, yes. Do us collectors just wish for another rendition of the OG release, yeah probably, but will us collectors cop, well yeah most probably we will! I would put the Air Jordan 7 ‘White Infrared’ up there as one of the better crossovers we’ve seen!
I can’t help but think that the ‘White Infrared’ Jordan 6 with Nike Air on the bootie isn’t too far away, but until that happens, we have a 7 with the same colour blocking as the classic to look forward to.
That’s all from me, big up to the home team @offspringhq for the opportunity! Hope you enjoyed reading my thoughts and views!
