A veteran returns to the track.
Back in its true form for the first time after 22 years, the Nike Air Max ‘Olympic’ is due to launch on the 6th February 2026. It’s not just the medals that make Olympic Games memorable, sometimes it the style that surrounds them.
First released in 2004 to celebrate the Summer games in Athens, sporting the iconic 5-Ring colours across the lace loops and panelling, clear bubble air unit, and a greek flag with gold branding on the tongue. To revamp this re-release Nike have given them the big bubble treatment - the only change to this colour way.
This is not the first time we've seen an Olympic pack from Nike, they solidified their stance in the Barcelona 1992 Olympics with their stand out apparel and footwear collection. Michael Jordan sported the Air Jordan VIII 'Olympic' on-court and off-court he wore the Air Max 180 'Concord'. The Nike Air Pegasus 92 was released to celebrate the games.
In 2004 Nike revised the story on 3 iconic models, the Air Max 95, Dunk, and Air Force 1. Releasing alongside the Olympic 95 were the Nike Dunk High ‘Gold’, Nike AF1 ‘Silver’, and the Nike Air Max 95 ‘Bronze’.
In 2020, despite the postponement of the Tokyo Olympics, Nike released the ‘Hidden Message’ pack which revisited some old favourites from 2004, including an Air Max 95 with a twist. Keeping the white midsole but changing to a black upper, the major difference was the tear-away upper which revealed a gold metallic panel underneath.
