We were invited by Puma to attend the Mains ‘Season Three’ runway show along with some of our Community members.
Creative director Skepta and head designer Mikey Pearce delved deeper into ‘Pandora’s box’ and took inspiration from Jean Paul Gaultier’s 90’s show Eurotrash to create a collection that was an ode to the once young Tottenham boy who dreamt of raving and owning designer clothes.
On a backstreet in Shoreditch, Mains branded Defender cars pulled up dropping off celebrities and press alike, all anticipating the start of the show. The queue was a bustle of creatives sharing ideas, old friends reuniting, and conversations about what was to come. The ‘season one’ show played on London with a sporty twist, ‘season two’ used nostalgic references and academic iconography to further reimagine modern streetwear, how could Skepta continue from this?
Each piece stood out from the next yet carefully intertwined with each other. The long-sleeved mesh ‘OOP’s’ top nodded to Joop!’s branding. While the iconic Ribena jacket, giant straw included, felt like a nod to his Community Payback mixtape (Frisco). Mains branded cigarette boxes as shirt pockets, wind-swept ties, perversely strapped stockings, all paying homage to Eurotrash.
Puma had a high profile on the runway with models sporting various Skope iterations and metallic Speedcats.
The carefully curated soundtrack guided us through the show; kickstarting with nostalgic noises of a Nokia ring tone, children on a playground and ‘Original Nuttah’ it smoothly led into the drums of nostalgic jungle and ended with the classic 1991 acid house anthem ‘Move Your Body’.
In an interview, referring to how people should feel after wearing/seeing S3 Mains, Skepta said ‘they should want to go to a party and rave’ and that is exactly what we did. Moving down into the basement, Hennessey supplied the drinks, and the tunes were supplied by legends lighting up the dance floor. Mas Tiempo, Heartless Crew, Shabba D and Uncle Dugs took us away into the night.
As said by the man himself,
