adidas x Tom Dixon

The infamous German sportswear giant adidas has a keen eye for exciting collaborations with avant-garde designers such as Rick Owens and Yoji Yamamoto, and now with British product designer Tom Dixon. Known for his interiors, furniture and lighting, it is a unique choice of collaborator who has never experimented with footwear and apparel.

Combining an architectural view of form the footwear has a bare essence of functionality with its detailing stripped back. Sports footwear and apparel is naturally highly functional and Tom Dixon’s explorer style keeps it durable but also with intention to transcend the seasons.

The blue, grey and black shoes combine rough suede and nylons and give a military/camping style with a heavy tred sole unit. With raw edges and simple lacing the styles are utilitarian and designed to fit in the perfect ‘capsule’ wardrobe.

This unexpected collaboration from adidas shows us how sportswear is not only using fashion to create new and exciting ideas but branching out to the world of product design and architecture to help evolve the nature of sportswear.

The adidas x Tom Dixon footwear is only available in Offspring Selfridges London, Poste and Poste Harvey Nichols London.

Y-3; The History of

“..with adidas we created something that did not exist before and completely projected the future. My desire was and is to make sportswear elegant and chic. adidas is very personal inspiration to me…it enriches my creative life”

Yoji Yamamoto, 2011

Y-3

It has been 13 years since sports giant adidas started its largest alliance with avant-garde fashion designer Yoji Yamamoto. Their aim was to create the perfect combination of sports and fashion, pushing the boundaries with innovative designs and expert craftsmanship. The logo Y-3 symbolizes this collaboration, with the ‘Y’ standing for Yoji Yamamoto, the ‘3’ represent adidas’ infamous 3 stripes and the ‘-‘symbolizing the bond between the two.

Fashion and sportswear have often found themselves using the same thought process, how to dress the body for its daily endurances. With Yamamoto’s designs exploring structure, silhouettes and perceptions of body’s moving inside of clothes, Y-3 introduced adidas to a more elite segment of the fashion market.

First linking up in July 2002, the collection shows in Paris during Fashion Week, showcasing the fusion of Japanese prints and paintings with bold sportswear and not forgetting the iconic 3 stripes within the designs. Stating his vision behind the collaboration, Yamamoto says, “People started calling me The Master, but I doubted that ordinary people were wearing my clothes”.

The trainers in particular remain as popular as ever with the new wave of ‘sneaker heads’ and other sports/designer collaborations allowing the everyday man or woman to own a little piece of designer footwear, keeping it limited and luxurious. Yamamoto wanted to go back to “the street”, saying he was “inspired by people walking and wearing trainers”.

Some of the iconic trainers include the Honja Low, Tokio Trainer and Kazuhiri Mid. Using adidas classic silhouettes and taking them one step further with luxe detailing and simplified design. Using rich, soft leathers, sleek lacing and occasional flashes of contemporary print, the Y-3 trainers result in a futuristic vision but keep the essence of the classic heritage sportswear giant, adidas.

Y-3 trainers are available at all OFFSPRING stores and online at www.offspring.co.uk.

Adidas Marathon Pack

130906_Adi_marathon

The City Marathon PT lay hidden for almost a third of a century in the attic of a former Technical Director of adidas, until last year when the prototype was uncovered while the 90-year-old was moving house. The classic shoe design utilises adidas’ patented Dellinger Web technology, which disperses impact shock to cushion your stride when your foot hits the ground and, in turn, performs like a trampoline to add spring to every step you take.

For FW13 Adidas have re-produced this vintage silhouette with a trio of classic colourways: Berlin, Chicago and New York.

BERLIN – The abundance of blues throughout the Berlin colourway of the City Marathon PT evokes the vivid blue skies that can now be seen where the Berlin Wall once stood.

CHICACO – The Chicago colourway of the City Marathon PT, with its chrome tones and shiny silver stripes, echoes the glistening skyscrapers that stand proudly across America’s third city.

NEW YORK – The sharp grey overlays and light grey stripes used in the New York colourway of the City Marathon PT reflect the industrial hue of the iconic Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, which links Staten Island to Brooklyn.

The shoes also give a subtle nod to marathon racing by incorporating the distance it takes to complete a marathon course, 42.195km, as part of the branding.

Offspring x Worldwide Exclusive: Pattern Pack Unveiled

AdiBannerJen

Offspring can now reveal the full, exclusive Offspring X adidas Pattern Packin all its glory. These unique and exclusive styles are presented in three iconic silhouettes, the Superstar 80’s, ZX8000x and the ZX800 model which is a UK exclusive to Offspring.

Sporting a combination of textures, materials and 3M reflective panels across the models that sit alongside the unique patterns which were carefully selected in house, these trainers speak for themselves.

The tonal grey Snakeskin makes it mark on the classic Superstar 80’s, coating the upper and using contrasting turquoise 3 Stripes. For a more subtle approach the ZX800 uses a scaly flash of snakeskin against its black suede upper with turquoise, grey and 3M accents.

The Speckle print adds its multicoloured spots to the sole unit of the ZX8000x which uses pastel grey and pink suede alongside 3M and bright purple panels. The print then subtly lends itself to the Superstar 80’s adding polka dots onto the iconic 3 Stripes, with the flash of pink against the dark grey suede adding a perfect pop of colour.

Finally the Aztec print uses its geometric patterns on the ZX800 and ZX8000x, blending its bright colours with the classic collegiate burgundy and navy blue suede bases and 3M panels to add reflective flashes to these classic models.

The launch date for this exclusive pack is to be confirmed very soon and will be available in all Offspring stores and on www.offspring.co.uk. Look out for the matching tote bags and swing tags featuring all the unique prints.

Y’s Super Position

For a decade, Adidas and world renowned fashion designer Yoji Yamamoto have enjoyed a successful partnership with the luxury sportswear brand Y-3.

The latest of Yamamoto’s avant garde designs is the Y’s Super Position from the Adidas Consortium Super Position Pack where the designer has used his Japanese perspective to rework a classic Superstar shape, using premium materials.

From the suede lace stay and soft leather lining, to the smooth leather toe box that replaces the iconic shell toe, this trainer is executed to the highest standard.

The most striking addition to this iconic silhouette is the re worked 3 Stripes, which sees the infamous linear logo outlined as a set of zig-zagged threads that hang past the sole.

This collaborative piece of trainer art is currently available in OFFSPRING Selfridges London.
